1- Do you know what FTP is?
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is one of the network protocols, in this case it allows a connection to exchange files between two machines connected to the network. That is, using this method it is possible to send data and other types of files from one machine to another or even save them on an FTP server.
FTP source
The origin of FTP dates back to 1971. Initially, it was developed as a way to transfer files reliably and efficiently, as well as allowing the use of files remotely from a connection. At that time it was used only on the ARPAnet network, a kind of predecessor of the internet.
At this time FTP was conceived at MIT by Abhay Bhushan.
As the years passed, technology and its evolutions happened naturally, FTP obviously also went through several modifications over that period. Such modifications concerned revisions and improvements in its code.
With the popularization of computers and the internet, a great need for storage and file exchange over the network is born at the same time. Since FTP already did exactly this job on the ARPANet, it didn’t take long for it to become popular as the most efficient method of exchanging files between connected machines.

What is FTP Server?
Files that are sent and received via FTP must be stored somewhere. This location is called the FTP server. The FTP server is nothing more than a web server that can be accessed and managed from an application installed on the computers.
This server model is especially useful for working with large amounts of information and data that must be accessed by multiple users.
For example, imagine that you have a hosted website with a very large volume of data and information on it. You can use an FTP server to store all these files and upload them to the internet.
So you can keep all this information safe and access it with your login and password.
In other words, you can use your FTP server as a safe and efficient way to back up your website.
FTP operation
To clearly understand how the process of transferring files between computers using the FTP protocol works, we need to keep in mind the two connection points that are called client and server (not to be confused with FTP server).
Let’s start by explaining what the customer is all about. When we talk about FTP transfer, the client is the computer that wants to access the information that is already on the internet. That is, the user’s computer most of the time.
The client then obtains access to the files from a program that connects to the server and this is the one who transfers the files.
The server, on the other hand, is precisely the machine where the files in question are stored on the internet. This can be your web hosting, a VPS, dedicated server or even a cloud server.
As the server has the files stored in itself and also has the programs that allow the connection with the client, to then grant permission to transfer files to the requesting client.
Obviously, this whole process needs to be secure. Therefore, some authentications are requested in the process.
The client initiates the FTP connection with a login and password, the server receives this connection request, validates your access (login and password) and redirects your computer (client) to the address where the requested data is stored.

FTP Utilities
So far it has become clear that FTP is of great importance in practically any process carried out on the Internet, since the Internet is based on the exchange of information between different machines.
But let’s talk about more specific FTP utilities, in order to show its versatility and power.
Starting with the ability that FTP has to transfer a large amount of data over the Internet. This is a very effective way to store and manage your projects. Basically you can keep everything saved on your FTP server and access it or grant access to anyone with your login and password.
Another interesting advantage is the functionality to send complete directories. This saves the time of sending file by file to the client.
And of course, as we said above and we always talk here on the blog, information security. Information security is increasingly a topic of attention when working with the internet. In FTP, in addition to login and password settings, it is still possible to add layers of encryption with SSL.
Creating FTP Accounts in cPanel
Now that we finally have an overview of what FTP accounts are, it’s time to get your hands dirty and create an FTP account in your hosting cPanel. As we have seen, there is no lack of reasons for this.
Start by accessing your hosting cPanel and look for the “FTP Accounts” option.
Then you have to add an FTP account with username, password and directory. Although the directory is automatically recommended, nothing prevents you from changing it according to your needs.
Finally, it is necessary to define the storage limit of the directory in question.
2- cPanel Login Authentication Failed, Error 530: Know How to Resolve
One of the most common errors to happen in cPanel is the login error. It is shown when the username and/or password are entered incorrectly.
Therefore, whenever this type of error occurs, it is best to check whether the data being entered is correct. If the error persists, there are some items that need to be analyzed. Check out:
Username
Make sure you are actually entering your cPanel login name. Many people confuse the user name with the access email and that’s why the error happens. So, remember that in cPanel, you must always enter the username, never an email address.
Password
Another mistake that can be made is related to the password that was informed at the time of login. Note that cPanel uses the same FTP password. So, if you changed the FTP password, the cPanel password is automatically updated.

Forgot User and Password
If you have forgotten or lost your cPanel username or password for your website, a new version can be requested through the “My Services” menu. There you will find the procedure that must be followed to generate a new password and cPanel access to be resumed.
Invalid License
Another error that can also happen in cPanel is an invalid license message. This happens because cPanel is a program that is recommended to have two servers, with license validation being done by the primary IP of the machine.
Despite this, the server can eventually reverse and the license be validated by the secondary IP, which is not programmed for this and generates the error. To correct the situation, in the case of servers with Linux CentOs.
For such just follow the steps below:
• On the server, edit the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file, adding the line DEFROUTE=yes to the code;
• Then, create the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 file;
• Copy the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file;
• Edit the values of DEVICE for eth1 and DEFROUTE for no;
• Once all that is done, restart your server;
• After restarting, you will be prompted to validate the cPanel license via SSH. To do this, type the command /usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt.
Error Establishing Connection with WordPress
When the site has errors connecting to WordPress, the correction can also be made via cPanel.
To do this, follow the following instructions:
• On the MySQL Database screen, go to the “Current Databases” section;
• Then, enter “Privileged Users”;
• In the “wp-config.php.” file, combine the values of these two columns with the following values: “DB_NAME” and “DB_USER”;
• If the “DB_USER” value is not listed, a new user must be added to the database. This user needs to have all privileges for the procedure to work.
If even after following this process the errors persist, it is necessary to verify the login password and the database host. Such information is usually provided with account details.
If the database host value has changed, it needs to be updated in WordPress so that the error solution verification can be done.
Login password verification may also be required. This can be done on the MySQL database. You can enter the password or create a new one using the “Password Generator” tool.
3- Simultaneous FTP Accesses
Also check some information about the access limits to your FTP, security information and errors that can be presented.
Limits
The limit of simultaneous FTP accesses by the same user and password are:
• 3 Connections on Linux platform;
• Unlimited connections for the Windows Platform;
• FTP Multiusers, has a limit of 3 connections.
Security Restrictions
Due to security concerns, no more than 7 login errors will be allowed within a 10 minute time frame.
If any user makes a mistake in their password in the characteristics informed, they will have their login blocked for 30 minutes, being released at the end of this time.

Error Caused
If you make more than 7 failed attempts to login to the FTP of your hosting, when you try again, even with the correct password, the message below will be displayed in your access software:
Response: 220 Microsoft FTP Service
Command: USER blackpearlmatrix
Response: 331 USER blackpearlmatrix OK. Password required
Command: PASS ********
Response: 530 User BlackPearlMatrix cannot log in
Error: Critical error
Error: Unable to connect to server
Therefore, we ask you to be very careful in the process of connection attempts, if you reach 3 attempts without gaining access, change the FTP password and try again.
IP blocking – FTP
When sending files via FTP your IP may be blocked causing you to be unable to access your website and FTP for 30 minutes.
The reasons are usually:
• Excessive access attempts with invalid password; for this case, we recommend changing the FTP user’s password;
• Files sent considered malicious; scan your files and rename those that may contain two extensions: “file.html.php”.
