Blogger VS WordPress Which Is Best For Making Money And Why
Blogger or WordPress: Which is the Best Blogging Platform?
- WordPress is in 23.9% of all internet sites
- Blogger is on only 1.1% of internet sites
- The great differential of the WordPress platform are the Plugins
- Blogger attracts new users for its simplicity, being only necessary to register an account to start
- WordPress presents a much more open solution and manages to deliver a better performance to its users
Analyzing statistically, WordPress is approximately 23,000% above Blogger, but this does not justify some advantages and disadvantages that we will see below, but just a matter of preferences of global users who own websites on the internet. Let’s move on and see which one makes the most sense to you?
Blogger or WordPress?
In this post we show the advantages and disadvantages of each platform, as well as a comparison between them at different points!
What is the Best Platform to Create Your Blog?
One of the most important decisions you will make in your blogging life is which platform to blog on.
Back when blogging as a diary was all the rage, almost everyone wanted to blog on Blogger. Other platforms such as Weblogger or UOL (with the famous .zip.net ending) also existed, but were not as popular.
Until at a certain point, the really big blogs started using their own domains, with CMS (Content Management System) platforms like WordPress and Cutenews. This was a trend that many smaller blogs failed to follow, as at the time it required considerable investment and even a little programming knowledge.
But nowadays you don’t have to worry about any of that.
What you really need to know is that these days there are tons of platforms to build your blog. And trying to attract the largest number of consumers who don’t understand much about computers or programming, almost all options are easy to use and have several tutorials on the internet, allowing you to do everything yourself.
Some of the Most Popular Are:
• WordPress;
• Blogger;
• Wix;
• Square Space;
• Tumblr;
• Medium.
However, if you intend to turn your blog into a business, doing everything on your own or with as little help as possible, I suggest you choose between the best blog platforms, which in this case are Blogger and WordPress.
Why Not Create Your Blog on Other Platforms
For beginners, the differences between the options I mentioned may not be very relevant.
But on Medium for example, you pretty much only have control over the text, whereas on Tumblr you can post in different formats, like images or quotes.
And the big problem is that, after a while, these platforms start to get small. As your blog grows and you learn new marketing strategies, you will feel the need, for example, to improve your blog’s SEO, which is what makes it appear in the first places of Google searches.
Platforms like Medium and Wix allow few changes in terms of SEO and your hands will be tied without being able to improve your presence in search engines. Tumblr and Squarespace even offer more freedom in terms of SEO, but they are platforms with few functions, and there is no easy way to solve this problem like WordPress.
In my experience, those who choose one of these platforms end up regretting it after a while, as additions such as email capture popups, integrations with other tools, and even speed improvements are difficult (or even impossible) to make.
Why Create a Blog on Blogger
While not my choice for Smart Blogger (and I’ll explain why below), Blogger is a good platform to build your blog, especially if you’re just starting out and don’t have a clear goal or don’t know where you want to go.
That’s because among all the advantages of Blogger, the one that stands out the most is that you can put your blog online without spending a dime.
Plus, because it was built with blogging in mind, the platform is made to be easy to use (after all, most people who build this type of site aren’t experts in web design or programming), and it already has everything you need. you need to get started, such as ready-made layouts and tons of customization options to make your blog your own.
And speaking of customization, it is important to emphasize that Blogger allows a lot of freedom in relation to the platforms I mentioned earlier, since you have access to your blog’s code and can edit it in the way you see fit, whether to make it faster or more Optimized for search engines.
Two other great advantages of this platform for creating your blog are security and speed. Blogger blogs, being a Google platform, are hosted on the company’s servers – which, as you can imagine, knows very well what it’s doing. This makes these blogs fast and extremely secure.
Still Undecided Between Blogger or WordPress?
Well this is Blogger dashboard which is super easy to use but needs code editing for big changes.
After all that, you might be wondering why people blog on platforms other than Blogger when it’s so easy to use and free.
The truth is that despite allowing more elaborate customization, in Blogger you can only do this by modifying your blog’s code. This means that if you don’t know how to program, you’ll need to hire someone to make changes or study the subject. You cannot easily add extra functionality, unlike WordPress which allows you to install plugins.
There are other drawbacks to Blogger, but this is the biggest one. The time you will spend learning programming to change your blog on the platform, you could spend writing new posts if you were using WordPress.
Also, all blogs on blogger end in .blogspot.com, which is unprofessional. To change that, you’ll need to invest in a domain, which costs between $10 and $20 a year.
Advantages of Creating Your Blog on Blogger:
• It is possible to put your blog online without spending anything (zero cost);
• Easy to use;
• It has ready and responsive layouts;
• Platform in Portuguese;
• It’s all online, and you don’t have to worry about hosting.
Disadvantages:
• You need to change the blog code to make significant changes;
• All your content stays within the platform, and it can decide that your blog violates some rule and delete it without prior notice;
• The platform is not very up to date;
• Need to pay for the domain to leave the .blogspot.com ending;
• Overall, I think Blogger is a good choice if you don’t want to create a professional blog and earn money from it.

Why Create A Blog On WordPress
First of all, it is important to explain that there are two types of WordPress, .org and .com. In this post, when I say “WordPress or Blogger”, I am referring to WordPress.org, a free platform that needs hosting and a domain to work. Therefore, you will need to make an initial investment to get your blog online, including domain and hosting.
This investment is worth it, however, the WordPress platform is much more complete than any other option on the market. In fact it is the most used in the world to create any type of website, not just blogs.
That’s why you don’t have to worry about not “knowing how to create a website”, as the dashboard is as intuitive as possible, so anyone can learn to use it quickly.
In addition to the numerous fast and responsive themes (layouts) that you can use for free, using WordPress still brings a huge benefit that are the plugins.
These plugins are “small pieces of code” that you can easily install on your blog, but rest assured it’s very easy, all you need to do is click “install” and then “activate”. With them, you can add tons of functionality to your website, such as popups to grow your email list, optimizations for speed, security, SEO, and much more.
With plugins it is much easier to create a professional looking blog. So this is the platform we recommend if you want to turn your blog into a business.
Not Sure Whether To Create Your Blog On Blogger Or WordPress?
Well, here is the WordPress.org dashboard, super intuitive and you learn to use it in a few minutes!
As I mentioned earlier, to create a blog using WordPress you will need to purchase a domain and hosting. I recommend that you hire Hostinger, which is a very economical company with specific plans for WordPress.
You have 24/7 support to help you, in addition to having a quick WordPress installer and depending on the plan you even get a year of free domain.
Advantages Of Creating Your Blog In WordPress:
• More robust platform, allows you to make a website the way you want;
• Plugins to easily add functionality;
• More themes and tutorials;
• Frequently updated.
Disadvantages:
• Need a domain and hosting;
• It takes a while to learn how to use all the functions;
• If you intend to run your blog like a business, we suggest hiring your hosting with Hostinger and using WordPress.
What is the Best Platform for Blogging: Blogger or WordPress?
As you can see, both platforms have advantages and disadvantages. But look at each one of them with your own eyes and draw a conclusion:
Anyway, in the next paragraphs compare the two tools in the following aspects: cost, security, ease of use, updates, monetization, speed, SEO, customization.
Cost
There is no doubt here, Blogger is the winning option as you can create a blog for free. It is worth remembering, however, that to avoid the “.blogspot.com” ending, which is not professional, you will need to invest in your own domain that costs between U$ 10 and U$ 20 per year.
To use WordPress, you need to invest in a domain and hosting. However, depending on the plan (such as WordPress Starter), for the first year you get a free domain.
Safety
As it is a platform hosted on Google’s servers, Blogger also ends up being more secure in general.
However, this does not mean that WordPress is not secure, it just has some points that you need to pay attention to. As it is an open source platform, that is, anyone can contribute, there are numerous plugins and themes with not so secure codes that can compromise the integrity of your site.
To work around this issue, we suggest installing only components from trusted companies and developers, as well as a specialized security plugin. A highly recommended one is All-in-One WP Security, which is completely free and does the job very well.
Easy to use
While Blogger was created for less experienced users with ease of use in mind, it must be said that WordPress is easier to use. That’s because the panel menu is extremely intuitive.
Want to change your menu items? Go to Appearance, Menu. Want to write a post? Post, new post. Want to install a new theme? Themes, add new ones, activate. It’s extremely intuitive and everything is where you expect it, different from Blogger which has two different panels for customization, for example.
Also, you don’t need to mess with any kind of code using WordPress. Everything is done through the dashboard using plugins and themes, which you can install with just a few clicks. In Blogger, for big changes or to add functionality you will need to tinker with the layout code.
Being the most used platform in the world, there are also countless tutorials explaining practically everything you want to learn about the platform.
Updates
Blogger has barely been updated, so if you’re waiting for new features, don’t get your hopes up.
WordPress is already the opposite, and both the main platform and its plugins and themes are updated frequently. Most of these updates serve not only to add functionality, but also to strengthen the security of the platform and its components, so it’s important to always keep everything you install up to date.
Also, if you want more functionality in WordPress, then you don’t have to wait for any updates, just install a new plugin.
Monetization
The monetization possibilities are one of the factors that most influence people when choosing between WordPress and Blogger.
On both platforms you can use affiliate links and sell infoproducts, but anyone who wants to build a sales strategy through email marketing, for example, may be frustrated with the lack of email-related features on Blogger.
For affiliates, WordPress offers more freedom to implement different sales strategies.
In addition, there are plugins whose purpose is to transform your affiliate link into a beautiful link.
In terms of ads, each of the platforms for creating a blog has its advantages. Blogger, being from Google, is easier to be approved in Adsense, which is also from the same company.
Because it is more limited, however, Blogger does not have integration with several other ad networks that pay as well or even more than Adsense. To use these other networks like Ezoic, you will need a WordPress blog.
As you can also use Adsense on WordPress, I would say that it is the winner in the monetization category as it is better for affiliate links and has as many advantages as Blogger on the ads side.

Speed
You alone have little influence on the speed of your blog on Blogger. As it’s hosted by Google, the company takes care of optimizing pretty much everything, so even with poorly written code or huge images, you won’t have much impact on your blog’s loading speed.
WordPress speed depends on many factors such as the amount of plugins installed, the server your blog is hosted on, the size of images, scripts, etc.
It’s hard to choose a winner in this category, because on the one hand Blogger does everything for you but you can’t improve much, while WordPress you can optimize your speed but also make your blog super slow.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
SEO techniques are used to optimize your blog so that it appears better in search engine results. That is, by applying them you increase the chances of your blog being on the first page of Google.
Page optimizations such as choosing a keyword and applying it in strategic places in your post can be done on both platforms. Now, for your blog optimizations in general, WordPress gives you a lot more options for optimizing for speed and user experience.
Also, if your layout is not optimized for searches, to do any optimization you will need to modify the code, whereas in WordPress you can make these changes using the appearance editor or plugins.
Customization
Here we have an obvious winner and that is WordPress. While Blogger has several free responsive layouts, to make more elaborate changes you will need to edit your template code.
With WordPress you can do any kind of customization you want in a simple way, using plugins and one of the thousands of themes available on the platform. The possibilities are endless and you can do it yourself without having to learn to code or tinker with your blog’s code.
Of all the issues analyzed, this is undoubtedly what makes WordPress an extremely powerful tool and the reason why it is the most used blogging platform in the world.
This way, you can see that there is not exactly one right answer to the question “Blogger or WordPress?”, but which one fits your situation better. Still not sure if blogging is for you or not looking to make it professional? Go from Blogger. Want something more powerful to turn your blog into a business? Go from WordPress with Hostinger hosting.
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about WordPress or Blogger
1- What is the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org?
The WordPress CMS can be downloaded from the wordpress.org website and then installed on your hosting, so you are free to do whatever you want! On the other hand, wordpress.com is an already hosted WordPress option, but it ends up having many limitations, ultimately being much more expensive if you want the full version of WordPress.
2- How to login to WordPress?
Usually your WordPress login address will be yoursiteaddress.com/wp-admin or yoursiteaddress.com/wp-login.php. It is recommended that you change this address for security reasons (just use a plugin called WPS Hide Login).
3- Can I switch platforms after creating a blog?
Yea!!! But as the platforms are not compatible with each other, this change is not easy to make. There are people who specialize in this type of service, and we recommend not trying to make this change on your own, especially if your blog is already ranked well on Google. Any accidental change in the URL (address) of your posts, for example, can cause you to lose organic hits and need to work on your posts again.
4- Can I use WordPress to do SEO? Is it a good platform?
Yea!!! It's an excellent platform! Considering the thousands of optimization and content creation tools it has according to Google's own search recommendations.
5- Is it worth hiring WordPress hosting?
As WordPress has specific needs for performance and security, it is worth hiring specialized hosting on the platform. This way, everything will be configured especially for WP.
Conclusion
This way, you can see that there is not exactly one right answer to the question “Blogger or WordPress?”, but which one fits your situation better.
WordPress offers many more options for site management, security, and customization. This makes the decision to choose one over the other easier for users.
But that doesn’t make Blogger a bad option. If you just want a blog without many options, it can be the ideal alternative for your project.
